Bless Me

Blessing someone is a wonderful gift.  Grandparents can bless their children with help with the Grandkids, they can bless the grandkids by helping Mom and Dad rest.  They can bless the grandkids with a bike or a book with music lessons, with a listening ear.

Blessing our spouses is good for you and for them.  We bless them with our support, our love, our understanding, we bless them with our protection, we bless each other with honesty and correction.  Blessing our spouse should be part of our everyday habits just like brushing our teeth happens after every meal.  We can easily take for granted the people who love us.

I love to pray for a blessing for strangers.  A Mom who has a child who is tired and grumpy needs a blessing.  I pray she will be blessed by a child who sleep through the night and late into the morning.

I pray for a blessing for the city bus driver.  I pray that they will be blessed with kind and considerate riders who tell him or her how good a job they are doing.

I pray for a blessing for my teller at the grocery store.  Sometimes I ask God to make me a blessing the teller.  I thank them and smile at them and let them know that I am not upset at their mistake, often I say if that is the worst thing that happens to me today I am a happy man.

There are times that I pray for a blessing.  Bless me with the right words to say to the grieving person or the angry teenager.

Genesis 32:22-32 tells us the story of Jacob who wrestled with God until he received a blessing.  This week we will be looking at asking God for a blessing.  I hope you will join me.
