Combined Worship Gathering on October 21

Hello Graceworks!

Tomorrow we will be celebrating at St. Columba Presbyterian at 10:30 a.m. (1540 Main Street East, Hamilton) along with Pioneer Memorial United for another combined gathering as “Graceworks On Tour”. Our friend Tim Kennedy will be preaching (again, no relation to Steve Kennedy) and he will be sharing on the theme of “Loving Your Neighbour”. If you haven’t been to one of our combined gatherings, then make sure to join us tomorrow to experience it. Parking is tricky but not impossible (there is street parking available and the building is on the bus lines – before the traffic circle before Parkdale. If you hit the circle you have gone too far – it’s on the right hand side heading east).

We also wanted to let you know that there will be a short meeting after church regarding membership on Sunday October 28th right after the gathering so please consider yourself notified of this. 🙂

Tickets are now on sale for “Like a Diamond: Remembering Tom Petty” which happens on Friday November 16 at 8 p.m. at the Pearl Company. The Pearl will be closing in May of 2019 and we will be doing this show and a George Harrison tribute in February before it closes. If you have never been to the Pearl or you have friends who like Tom Petty, it will be a fun gig. All monies raised will go to Gracenotes to assist local musicians. For tickets click here:

I love the encouragement that Paul gives in his letter to Hebrews and especially the Message version: “Let’s see how inventive we can be in encouraging love and helping out, not avoiding worshiping together as some do but spurring each other on, especially as we see the big Day approaching.” (Hebrews 10:23, The Message).

Why does the church have to be boring? God has surrounded us with incredible colour, diversity and beauty and yet sometimes we like to take the easy way out when it comes to worshipping. Paul reminds us to be INVENTIVE so we can encourage love and to help others. It is easy to avoid church and to not worship together. Yes, we can sleep in and enjoy a Sunday lie in (not going to lie, when I can on my vacations I love it). But sometimes we do try and avoid worshipping together and this however is the worst thing we could do as believers. Both our community and our communities at large suffer when we don’t come together as a church body and celebrate. We miss the chance to encourage each other in our weekly gatherings. The Big Day that Paul talks about here is when Jesus will return. May we find ways to be inventive and loving so that when Jesus does return, He will see a community of believers willing to love for His sake, to risk and to sacrifice for His sake.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow at St. Columba, Next week we will be back to our normal location at the Hamilton Spectator. See you tomorrow!

in His love,
