    Rev. Don Berry-GrahamPastor

For the last twenty years, Don has been serving the Hamilton community in his work as Pastor of James Street Baptist Church, now renamed Graceworks Baptist Church. He began his life in ministry in Windsor Ontario and then travelled to Regina, Saskatchewan, where he studied Christian Education and Youth Work. His ministry and education led him to Fort St. John, British Columbia, London Ontario (Youth for Christ) and then back to Regina where he studied and received his Master of Divinity. He served as Youth Pastor in Moose Jaw for 3 years.

Family brought him back to Ontario where he took his first Pastorate in Waterford Ontario for 8 1/2 years and then was called by James Street. He has had the privilege of spending the last 20 plus years serving and growing with the same community of people. He and Christopher Clause have been a team for 12 years. It has been one of the best experiences of his life.

In Don’s younger years he was an avid runner and completed a number of marathons. Knee problems meant he had to transition to biking. Long distance is still his preferred activity. He has completed the 100 mile ride out of Buffalo and ridden from Toronto to Montreal. He is a cancer survivor, and has survived being hit by a car while riding his bike. Over the last 20 years he has been a member of the Y’s early birds.

Don had the privilege of working with Sister Carol Anne to bring to life Hamilton Out of the Cold. He has also sat on the board of Wayside House Hamilton. His has written a manual for Mentoring for Canadian Baptist of Ontario and Quebec. He writes weekly on the Graceworks website blog and is hoping to develop his own blog called Dam Old Preaching in the near future.

Don has never been afraid of change, which has been seen in how he has transitioned this community of faith from a traditional congregation to a gathering of Christ followers seeking to push the boundaries. In his own words, “We look for sacred cows and grind them up to make burgers for the party.”

Don is developing his artistic side through quilting, zentangles and wood burning on many different media and carving.

He is married to Gail who has “seen him through thick and thin. Without her support, the last 20 years would not have been possible.” Don and Gail raised three children Melissa (married to Adam and they have 3 sons), James and Sarah (married to Moshen who serve in Turkey).

Christopher Clause is a husband, father, musician and worship pastor who has a passion for God, his family, music and the city of Hamilton. Born in Hamilton and raised in Grimsby, he moved back to Hamilton after marrying his childhood sweetheart. He received his Bachelor of Music degree (summa cum laude) at McMaster University, studying Classical Guitar with Lynne Gangbar and Peter McAllister. He then received his Bachelor of Education degree at the University of Toronto and then taught music for ten years. Through his struggles and failures both personally and professionally, Christopher says, “God has been merciful to me, showing me grace that I had never experienced before. I continually live in the shadow of His grace.”

He has been the worship pastor at Graceworks (formerly James Street Baptist) since 2002. During this time he has been active in the local music community staging tribute shows to raise money for Out of the Cold and Gracenotes (a benevolent initiative to help local artists create and release their own records) as well as producing, performing and recording his own music. In 2015 he and his soulmate Rose-Frances celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary, and they have two beautiful children: Emma and Riley. When he is not leading worship or performing you can find him browsing in a record store or at home spinning vinyl.
