Strength Training

I am told that as an older person, officially a senior in Hamilton,  (I am now a member of the Hamilton Senior centre.  How did that happen?  Back to topic.)  that I need to do strength training.  Seniors lose bone density as they age and the only way to replace it is to lift weights.  I hate lifting weights.  Never liked it mostly because I am a weakly.  Just not very strong when it comes to pushing those weights.  I would rather run or bike because I love cardio training.

Bottom line, I am working at putting some weight training into my exercise routine.  Does not mean that I like it in any way.  I know it will be good for me so I do it.

Paul wants us to be strong in Christ.  In Ephesian 3:14-20 he prayers for our strengthening.

14-19 My response is to get down on my knees before the Father, this magnificent Father who parcels out all heaven and earth. I ask him to strengthen you by his Spirit—not a brute strength but a glorious inner strength—that Christ will live in you as you open the door and invite him in. And I ask him that with both feet planted firmly on love, you’ll be able to take in with all followers of Jesus the extravagant dimensions of Christ’s love. Reach out and experience the breadth! Test its length! Plumb the depths! Rise to the heights! Live full lives, full in the fullness of God.

20-21 God can do anything, you know—far more than you could ever imagine or guess or request in your wildest dreams! He does it not by pushing us around but by working within us, his Spirit deeply and gently within us.

Glory to God in the church!
Glory to God in the Messiah, in Jesus!
Glory down all the generations!
Glory through all millennia! Oh, yes!

Paul must have been like me not blessed with brute strength.  Brute strength is my brother who used to be able to pick up 100 lbs feed bags one in the left and one in the right and at the same time tip them up and feed the horses.  Most of us would be getting a pail, dipping it into he bag and taking it a pale at a time to the horses.  When the bag was almost empty we would pick it up.  No we need inner strength so our lives will be open channels of love.

Love for enemies

Love for people who are very different than we are (rather than fear we offer love)

Love for the poor

Love for the widow and orphan

Love for the refugee

Love for the native Canadians

Love for politician (that is a really hard one)

Love for crying babies

Love for rebellious teenagers

Love for a cheating spouse

Love for a driver with road rage

Paul wants us to be strengthen on the inside with a love that is like Jesus love.  A love that lead him to the cross.  A love that was beyond belief.  When we are strengthen with his kind of love, everyone will see how deep, high and wide is the love God has for all of humanity.

I all for this kind of strengthen training.
